SUCCESSFUL WDM ROLLOUT PROJECT
Project Overview
FDNS were engaged by Teligence, a global organisation offering installation and commissioning services for next generation equipment. The task involved the nationwide implementation of WDM technology for Virgin Media.
FDNS were selected because of their technical understanding and delivery of similar WDM projects in the past. Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) is a complex subject that requires precise skill and expertise.
Teligence and Virgin engaged FDNS to carry out a five phase rollout across two regions in the Midlands and South West, installing and commissioning over 350 nodes on the network.
Project Proposal
Phase 1 site surveys
Phase 2 delivery acceptance and pre staging Transmode equipment
Phase 3 Installation of network nodes on Virgin Media, and EE sites
Phase 4 Commissioning and testing of WDM network
Phase 5 Network integration and handover

FDNS deployed a team of 3 engineers to Peterborough to start the pre-build phase, whilst 7 engineers installed the optical WDM equipment after carrying out diligent checks.
The commissioning included the building of multiple optical rings this needed to be balanced correctly to allow for future network growth.
Project Outcome
Senior managers from Virgin Media and Teligence were delighted with the professionalism displayed by FDNS and the support given throughout all stages of the project.
